Recruitment
R is the renown level you need. S is the character’s own support level with you, raised by liked gifts and meals.
How IGN names these meters
IGN’s own recruitment guide frames this as two separate meters shown on a character’s Character Info screen: an overarching Renown Level, and a per-character Bond Level 1–3 (raised by gifts, meals and Theatre invitations), likely the same underlying idea as this page’s R/S, described with different names. A Bond Level 3 requirement takes considerably more time and money than Level 2. Some characters also need a final Negotiation (dialogue choices, an item trade, or a subquest) once those levels are met. IGN is explicit that this can never be permanently failed, only retried. ign.com

With one route chosen, each chip carries three letters, S to D. “Route” is the guide’s tier for the unit on that route, on the game’s menu plate. “Overall” is the guide’s tier with the route left out, on a solid tile. “Votes” is the community tier from site votes, in outline, shown once 5 people have voted. With all routes shown, a chip keeps the overall and community letters and the route tiers are in the sheet. A route tier starts from the median of four published tier lists, then moves for the unit’s growth rates, for what players say and for how early the unit can be fielded on that route. Open a chip for the working, other sites’ tiers and class fits, or see the overall ranks on the tier list.
